Message from our Artistic Director

Dear Draw Supporters,

Maud is back!

I’m so excited that we have been able to acquire another gorgeous original painting by Maud Lewis, Nova Scotia’s beloved folk artist, for our December raffle. On December 14th, just in time for the holidays, it could be yours!

We were delighted to see such large crowds at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s Maud Lewis exhibit this year—interest in her work shows no sign of waning.

Our painting has been authenticated by Ian Muncaster, a Maud Lewis expert and the owner of Zwicker’s Gallery in Halifax. Ian has valued it at $40,000.

The iconic scene with the covered bridge is one of the artist’s most-loved winter images, with its procession of three sleighs heading towards a serene village. This particular painting will be very exciting to collectors because of a rare detail: the shadows on the snowladen trees are pink, rather than the more usual blue, suggesting a rosy sunset. There are only three known examples of this variation.

We are selling just 1,111 tickets at $100 each, or 3 for $250. Ticket purchasers may also buy 50/50 tickets at $25 each or 5 for $100. When we draw your winning ticket, you can take either the painting or $32,000 cash.

The draw will be streamed live from the Music Room on Thursday December 14, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. You will be able to watch at www.scotiafestival.com.

Good luck!
